Welcome to the Daimon Institute

We focus on advancing understanding and creating optimal opportunities for our brightest children and adults.

Consultant, Researcher and Mother of Two PG Children

“I imagine a place where a child with a rage to learn is taught something new and exciting every day. A place where a child is never told they are developmentally incapable of learning something simply because of their chronological age. A place where a child does not go to school each day terrified of getting into trouble because the frustration of an inappropriate educational fit overwhelms the developmental maturity of their self-control.”

Mental Health

Our brightest minds need informed and compassionate support—a community of believers and skilled practitioners equipped with strategies and approaches to learning, development, and growth that truly fit. Nothing less.

The approaches they need may be inconvenient, unfamiliar, or uncomfortable. Often, they are all three. But simplicity cannot adequately serve complexity.

“For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.”
— H. L. Mencken

We must continue building a body of knowledge broad, deep, and multifaceted enough to adequately represent the diversity and complexity of profoundly gifted individuals and their lived experience.

At the Daimon Institute, we conduct scientific research to identify, examine, and more fully elucidate the exceptionally and profoundly gifted (EPG) experience. But this work cannot occur in isolation. We must share and integrate our research, clinical knowledge, educational practice, and applied experience across the field—drawing upon the important contributions of SENG, NAGC, the Davidson Institute, The Grayson School, and others committed to understanding and supporting this exceptional population.

We must work together to protect our children’s fundamental right to an authentic developmental experience—one that may be uncommon, but is no less natural or “normal” for them.

Exceptionally & Profoundly Gifted

EPG children worldwide deserve to be nurtured through experiences and educational opportunities that fit who they are—allowing them to grow, develop, and flourish as their authentic selves.

Educators

Gifted children and adults do not fit neatly into succinct, codified abstractions—the language and currency of social institutions such as education, medicine, and mental health. Their complexity, individuality, and developmental variability resist easy categorization and demand a more nuanced understanding of the whole person.

Researchers

Through targeted research, among other endeavours, we seek to more fully understand, identify, and support the distinctive social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and altruistic dimensions of gifted development—viewed through the particularly illuminating lens of highly, exceptionally, and profoundly gifted individuals.
